About Brooke's Book Blog

Well... Since I currently don't have a job, and in an effort to not become stupid, I have decided to read Newsweek's Top 100 books over the next three (maybe four) years. Thoughts and details to follow.

Gone With the Wind

I am a terrible blogger. I finally finished "Democracy in America." I really enjoyed Volume I, but Volume II didn't really interest me. Volume II consists of short chapters about the effect of democracy on just about everything (women, marriage, newspapers, feelings, opinions, etc.) It took a long time to finish, but I finished last Wednesday.

I was really excited to draw my next book, and I picked "Gone with the Wind" out of the hat. So far it is amazing. It is one of my favorite books that I have ever read. I don't know if it is really that great or if it is just so much more interesting than "Democracy in America."

I don't know the story of "Gone with the Wind," but the two main characters, Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler have just met for the second time in the story. Rhett Butler overheard Scarlett proclaiming her love for Ashley Wilkes (which was unladylike to begin with and to top it off, he was about to annouce his engagement to his cousin), and he mocks her relentlessly when Ashley turns her down. Now Scarlett has run into him a year or so later and she is a widow with a young baby. I can't wait to read more. I will go back to posting now that my book isn't so boring.
