About Brooke's Book Blog

Well... Since I currently don't have a job, and in an effort to not become stupid, I have decided to read Newsweek's Top 100 books over the next three (maybe four) years. Thoughts and details to follow.

Mole

I finished the Wind in the Willows last night... Kenneth Grahame's tale of the adventures of Mole, Rat, Toad and Badger in the meadows, along the river and in the wild woods of the countryside of England. My favorite character is definitely Mole, who starts the book off by deciding that he is bored with the rut of his normal life underground and digs his way up into the world above. Mole is fascinated by even the smallest of things, and always seems to be in awe of the wonders of nature around him. Toad gets into the best adventures as he steals motor cars, sneaks out of prison dressed as an old lady, and slowly finds his way back to his wonderful friends. At the end of the book his friends engage in a battle to win back Toad Hall, Toad's house that has been taken over by the weasels and various other bad animals from the wild woods. It is definitely a great book... but with quite a vocabulary for a children's story.

My next book is Democracy in America. I feel like the fun ends now.
