About Brooke's Book Blog

Well... Since I currently don't have a job, and in an effort to not become stupid, I have decided to read Newsweek's Top 100 books over the next three (maybe four) years. Thoughts and details to follow.

One book down...

96 more to go. Well, 97 if you count the Bible (which I do, it is just going to take me a full year to read it, so it kind of slows down the countdown progress). And really, it is way more than 96 books being that Winston Churchill's "World War II" (No. 100) is actually 6 books, and there are a couple of trilogies on the list. Anyway. One down is still progress.

I really liked the Sound and the Fury. The third part of the book is narrated by Jason, brother to Quentin (the boy) and Benjy (I have confirmed that they are in fact brothers). It is set the day before the base story in part one. Faulkner doesn't really bring in too many other stories in this part; there is just one story from the past that surfaces a couple of times. This made the third part of the book much easier to read, and there were many details that were filled in for me. Although they never officially say it, Quentin (the girl) appears to be the child of Quentin (the boy) and his sister Caddy. The final part of the book isn't narrated by any particular character, but it mainly follows one of the Compton's servants, Dilsey. The part is set the day after the base story in part one, and it stays in the same story the entire time. It really allows the reader to put together the remaining pieces of the tragic story of the family. All in all, I really liked the book. Very unique.

And I realized last night that I was going to finish the book today, so I called my Dad and asked him to go to our house and pull another book out of the hat (they were going by my house anyway, so it wasn't that big of a favor). He picked "Wind in the Willows." We are heading out to the bookstore now to get it for the plane ride home. I need to write shorter posts.
